With everything running perfectly to schedule, Lapalux had all the time in the world to take us through an emotional journey of his fragmented and textured soundscapes. Using an Abelton Push and Akai Mpd 32 setup, enabled him to trigger and manipulate epic live versions of his tracks into one smooth endless session.
Not fully anticipating the raw sub bass weight Stuart was about to unleash, we naively set up our cameras. Only to find that nowhere was safe from the sheer power of his kick!
Essex-based producer Stuart Howard – better known as Lapalux – is the only British artist signed to Flying Lotus’ Los Angeles-based Brainfeeder label.
With several EPs out on Brainfeeder and a variety of remixes under his belt, his debut full-length album, Nostalchic, refines and perfects his distinctive sound. Drawing on elements of R&B and soul with house and hip hop, his atmospheric layers of textured sounds are weaved through with disjointed fragments and lopsided beats; all tied together with his deep sub bass. At times thoughtful, at times experimental; distant echoes and broken memories are conjured up by Lapalux’s complex, deeply textured, fragmented sound.
His second full length album is due for release on April 7th, so be sure to grab your copy here.
