Briefly back in the UK, Teebs set about giving us a treat with his second session for Soundcheck.
This time armed with two SP404's he set about playing extended live versions of tracks from his albums ESTARA and Adour. But it didn't stop there, he started to play with new unreleased material. Only to leave us gutted when the sound tech walked in frame to stop the session so the doors could open!
Having just arrived from the airport via taxi, a mellow Teebs strolled through the door and was more than happy to perform a couple of tracks for us. Still wearing his coat and armed with his Roland SP 404 Teebs played a couple of live versions of tracks from his latest album release ESTARA.
With food on his mind, we just managed to grab a few brief words with Teebs backstage. He had time to explain a bit about his music and live setup before he had to run off to get Dalston's local Turkish delicacy.
Based out of Chino Hills LA, Mtendere Mandowa–better known as Teebs–has created his own sun-kissed, dreamy take on the LA beat scene. Using his Roland SP 404 he creates an organic and playful layered collage of moments and emotions, building soundscapes that loosely move like distant daydreams.
These approaches are mirrored in his visual artwork. His latest project 'Ante Vos' is a collection of 400 found/discarded record sleeves that he has repurposed through painting, drawing and collage, giving new life to these otherwise forgotten memories.
With three releases under the Brainfeeder label including his debut Adour and latest album ESTARA, Mtendere's distinct style has also seen him team up for a beautifully chilled collaboration with prefuse73 as the Sons of the Morning.
